The Mill Valley Public Library maintains a room dedicated to information about Mill Valley's history. Named after the woman who was the driving force behind it, the Lucretia Hanson Little History Room contains a wealth of information about the town's past, including:
  • Microfilm copies and some original printed versions of Mill Valley newspapers dating back almost one hundred years
  • Hundreds of original historical photographs of the town and county
  • Artwork from local artists
  • Biographies of townspeople
  • Over one hundred oral histories of current and former residents recorded on tape and transcribed onto documents
  • Past and recent maps of the area
  • Artifacts such as an old traffic light and mailbox
  • Data on historic buildings in Mill Valley
  • Other reference material
The hours that the Lucretia Little History Room is openn can be found on the Mill Valley Public Library's History Room Hours page.

To further its goal of educating the community about local history, the Society provides support for the History Room. Many of the docents who staff the History Room are Society members but anyone with an interest in Mill Valley's history is encouraged to apply. Volunteers are needed for 2-hour periods twice a month to greet and assist visitors. An orientation of duties and a review of the History Room contents is provided to all beginning docents. This is a great way to learn more about local Mill Valley history. If you are interested, please contact us for more information.
